May 16, 2008 - National statistics show that 10% of the population will need speech therapy at some point in their lives. Pratt Regional Medical Center is proud to offer needed services to its patients, and speech therapy is one of those services. PRMC speech therapist, Deb May was recently honored at the PRMC service awards banquet for her 10 years of service to PRMC. May began the speech program at PRMC, ten years ago, and is still happy to come to work every day to help others. “Working with people to help them improve their quality of life is a pleasure,” May said.

On an average, May works with 30 to 35 patients per week. Through PRMC, speech therapy is available to inpatients, outpatients, skilled nursing home patients, and home health patients. Contract work for area schools and hospitals is also available.

The PRMC speech therapy department treats children and adults; treating both developmental (autistic,down's syndrome) and acquired disorders (strokes, head injury, illnesses). She also works with those who have dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and completes clinical and instrumental swallowing evaluations.
