DEFINITION: This is a test to evaluate the urinary bladder and urethra.
PURPOSE: To diagnose diseases of the urinary bladder and urethra.
PREPARATION: None.
DURING THE EXAM: A urinary catheter will be inserted in your urethra. A contrast material will be injected through the catheter into your bladder and x-rays will be taken while filling and emptying your bladder
AFTER THE EXAM: You may resume normal activity. The contrast material will be excreted through normal urination. You may note a possible burning sensation after the removal of the catheter.
