Renal Scan (Nuclear Medicine)
DEFINITION: Functional images taken of the renal anatomy with the use of Radioisotopes.
PURPOSE: To show disease of or injuries to the kidneys.
PREPARATION: No preparation, maintain your normal diet and medication. Drink plenty of fluids. Report to the Radiology Dept. at your scheduled appointment time.
DURING THE EXAM: You will be lying on your back. You will be made as comfortable as possible during the scan. You will receive a small radioisotope injection. Pictures will be taken immediately after the injection. It is important that you do not move during this test. At the end of this test you may be asked to go to the bathroom and return for additional pictures. This test takes approximately one hour to complete
AFTER THE EXAM:
Inpatient: You will be returned to your room.
Outpatient: The Technologist will check the films with the Radiologist, then you will be dismissed. |
