The
Only Color is Green
It could be said that Don Hommertzheim bleeds green.
This just means that he
believes in the value of the John Deere brand and
has made his living representing green machines. In
fact he has been working for John Deere for 39 years.
Maybe it was fate that brought him to the land of
the Greenbacks.
Don
and Gina are natives of Kansas from the Wichita vicinity.
However, they moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Pratt
in 1979. They made their home in Pratt and became
prosperous in a number of areas. The John Deere franchise
grew, their relationships expanded and their family
exploded.
The
Hommertzheim’s were blessed with five (5) kids
who are now grown and have produced four (4) grandchildren
- - - so far. As far as they are concerned there is
no such thing as too many grandkids. Don and Gina
will smile, ear to ear, if you ask them about their
grandkids and I am sure they will wear out a fleet
of cars making sure they see them as often as they
can. Their kids and grandkids are located in Dallas,
Denver, Austin and temporarily in France where one
is pursuing a Masters degree in International Business.
Both
believe in Pratt and the charitable organizations
which make up the social fiber of the community. They
have been active in a number of community organizations
through the years. Don has served on the PRMC Board,
the Rotary Board and two terms on the Pratt Health
Foundation Board.
He
has shared his time, his talents and his resources
with several charitable organizations including the
church, the hospital (through the PHF) and community
service projects. Gina too has been active in the
Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership 2000 program
as well as her church.
When
it came time to pursue a Capital Campaign, Don and
Gina, stepped forward and helped the Foundation complete
a successful campaign. Their enthusiasm and support
were both significant and important.
Don
and Gina now like to chase their grandkids and occasionally
a golf ball as they sneak up on their retirement years.
It has been a privilege and an honor to know and work
with them.
The
Win – Win Gets Better
The
Pratt Health Foundation grocery coupon program has
expanded and we would like to invite you to participate
in the new gift card program. Dillons and WalMart
are working with the Foundation by supplying gift
cards for employees and PHF supporters. It does enable
the PHF to receive contributions from these businesses
based on the sales of the gifts cards.
A
$10 gift card buys $10 of groceries, healthy (???)
candy bars, and/or medicine. It literally costs you
nothing to use the program. If you would like
to participate, we would welcome you to do so. Coupons
and gift cards can be purchased by either stopping
by the PHF office (203 S. Main) or seeing Nancy Bailey
at PRMC.
The
Million Dollar Question
”What
is your retirement dream?” A recent study has
led to the development of a
program called, “The Power Years: A Guide to
the Rest of Your Life.” The study
concluded that happiness in retirement depends on
more than just money.
It
depends on several things money cannot buy: engagement,
purpose and living
one’s dreams. Planning for retirement requires
more than just putting the right retirement and investment
strategies in place. The study identified five emotional
stages of retirement and the stages begin up to 15
years before you start.
The
Pratt Health Foundation is developing a brochure to
help you think through this
process. Please call the Foundation office if you
would like to talk about this unique
program. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The
future belongs to those who believe in the beauty
of their dreams.”
“The
Pratt Health Foundation promotes
health and raises funds to provide economic support
for health care in south-central Kansas through Pratt
Regional Medical Center.”
