Are
You an Incredible Giver?
The Foundation’s growth is related to the stories
of the people who give. Those who support PRMC through
their giving encourage and motivate others to do the
same. It is an honor to be able to tell their stories.
The following motivating story comes from a fundraising
consulting firm in Chicago.
A
consultant was visiting with a high profile donor
in Houston. During their conversation, the donor mentioned
some of the organizations he supported and the amount
he gave. His philanthropy was inspirational.
The
consultant mentioned that he was very impressed at
the amount he was giving. The donor was modest about
his philanthropy, but he told the consultant that
he was giving 50% of his annual income.
Fifty
percent!!!
The consultant asked if it was a stretch or a hardship
to give at that level. The donor told him that it
hadn’t changed his style or level of living.
He said, as a matter of fact, when he decided to give
50% - his business began to flourish and expand in
monumental proportions. He also mentioned several
others in Houston who were giving 50% of their income.
And their businesses, also, have prospered.
A
week later, the consultant visited a donor in Grand
Rapids and he told him that he was giving 50% of his
income to philanthropy. When he decided to do this,
his business exploded. “Now it takes all the
time I have to give it away,” he stated.
This
is inspiring. We can not guarantee that giving will
increase your business and many cannot afford to do
this but some can. This group of 50% givers had no
reservations - the rewards were greater than the gift.
They experienced gratification regardless of the recognition
level - a great reward.
I
do not know if we have anyone giving at this level.
But we have had some generous gifts from great people.
If you are a 50% giver, and you are willing to encourage
others, let me tell your story.
Year-End
Gift Planning Ideas
There
are several year-end charitable gift ideas. We will
send you a “Year-End Tax Checklist” brochure
with the October Torchbearer for your convenience
but thought we would offer the following ideas as
well.
- Give
securities that have grown in value (owned more
than one year).
- Give
through your IRA if you are over age 70 ½
(call for more information).
- Contribute
appreciated real estate.
- Make
a gift that retains lifetime income for you and/or
others.
- Give
surplus life insurance.
PHF
Awarded State Tax Credits
The
Kansas Department of Commerce announced in July that
PRMC has been awarded Community Service Credits or
Tax Credits. Anyone who pays Kansas Income Tax can
direct their Kansas Tax dollars to PRMC. If you are
in the higher tax brackets the 70% Kansas tax credits
cost very little. The tax credit money will be used
to purchase and install a Patient Lift System and
Bariatric beds. Please call the PHF office (672-6411)
if you would like your Kansas Income Tax money to
be used in south-central Kansas to take care of your
friends and family.
“The
Pratt Health Foundation promotes
health and raises funds to provide economic support
for health care in south-central Kansas through Pratt
Regional Medical Center.”
