The Goal of a Runner
The question for us all becomes, “what can we do to make sure PRMC grows and expands its services?” Many think it depends on large gifts and often overlook the importance of being a PRMC advocate and a consistent giver. Those that help PRMC the most are those who tell the PRMC story. They are advocates as well as supporters. They may tell how great the medical care is at PRMC, and give $10 a month through payroll or bank draft deductions, or $50 to the Festival of Lights, or $25 to the Spring Fund drive or $10,000 of life insurance or a $5,000 estate gift – all of these “gifts” are important to PRMC. Together, all gifts make a difference and enable the Foundation to provide significant support and resources for PRMC equipment needs.
PRMC has been a part of Doug Brehm’s life since birth. His great-grandfather was H.E. Randle, who was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a hospital in Pratt. Doug loves to run 6 – 12 miles a day when he can, but he has a goal that motivates him. His goal is to continue to run in marathons and finish. If you have not participated recently, marathons are races of over 26 miles, a greater distance than most of us cover when we “run” to the store for last minute supper items – in our car.
Doug believes goals are important to achieve any type of success, whether it is a marathon or fundraising. Both efforts require training (running or communicating to prospective donors) and the final achievement is crossing the finish line or completing the fundraising goal. He continues to support PRMC. Brehm stated, “I am proud of the hospital and pleased with its efforts to maintain great medical care. PRMC is important to the Pratt community and the prospects of facility expansion are exciting.” He gives to the mail appeals and likes the fact that 100% of PHF gifts are used to purchase medical equipment that helps all PRMC patients.
Brehm, in his 40’s, has also included PRMC in his estate plan. He thinks it is important to give what you can now, be loyal to PRMC, be an advocate and leave a legacy as well. He understands that he may not have much now, but anticipates that his assets will grow over time and when life is over, he will have a legacy to leave for PRMC. Everyone should have an estate plan and review it periodically, to make sure it is up-to-date. If you have established your estate plan and keep it current, your family and important community charities will benefit later. It is a great plan and everyone should do what they can now and plan to do more in the future.
