CAMPAIGN
HITS $3 MILLION
Hear ye, hear ye, the “Simply the Best”
Capital Campaign has met and exceeded its financial
goal of $2.6 million by December, 2005. The two year
campaign raised $1.809 million in cash and $1.219
million in deferred gifts for a total of $3.028 million.
The
Campaign Leadership Committee (CLC) consisting of
chairs Daniel Suiter, M.D., Susan Schrepel, Alan Pribil,
M.D. and Bekki Pribil provided the vision for the
historic effort. The CLC honorary chairs, Claudine
Riney, Jud and Bobbe Stanion, and Letha Mae and the
late Conard Gilham provided challenge gifts. The combination
of their gifts and efforts with the support of the
Foundation staff led to a successful fund raising
effort.
Dr.
Suiter summarized the motivation for many involved
in the campaign effort. He commented, “Pratt
is my home and the community where I provide medical
care. I felt it was time for me to give something
back to the community through the Capital Campaign.”
The
Campaign concept was developed in 2003 when the Pratt
Regional Medical Center (PRMC) Board faced a vendor
initiated retirement of their single-slice CT machine.
The Board also recognized the need for additional
technical medical equipment upgrades and renovations.
It was a huge challenge because the capital equipment
budget could not fund the needed purchases due to
reimbursement deficiencies.
The
only option was to ask the Pratt Health Foundation
(PHF) Board to authorize a campaign to provide the
needed funds. It was a historic, new challenge for
PRMC and the Foundation. “We have energized
the Pratt Health Foundation and given it the challenge
of raising money for PRMC’s capital equipment
needs both now and in the future,” commented
PHF Board member Susan Schrepel.
Even
though the work of the campaign is finished, the Pratt
Health Foundation will encourage charitable gifts
of all kinds, continue to collect campaign pledges
and commitments, as well as perform many other charitable
functions. The need for capital equipment funding
will always be an issue.
Many
new programs were developed in conjunction with the
Capital Campaign. For instance, the PHF Legacy Society
encourages people to consider leaving a portion of
their will or estate to the Foundation. The Legacy
Society will help build an endowed fund, which will
provide a consistent source of income for the capital
equipment needs of PRMC.
According
to PHF Board member Jerry Larrison, “The Society
helps people establish a permanent legacy in honor
of an individual or family, and assures south-central
Kansas families that medical care with state-of-the-art
equipment will be available for our friends and family.”
The
Pratt Health Foundation is grateful for those who
made gifts and pledges to the Capital Campaign. This
list of donors gives an idea of the scope and success
of this fund raising effort. It is an honor to know
them and we are thankful for their generosity.
