Celebrating
the Tradition
The Pratt Health Foundation (PHF) and its precursor,
the Gifts & Bequests Committee, funded over 300
projects and medical equipment purchases from 1975
to 2007. Calculating the current value of those expenditures
is difficult, but the Gifts and Bequests Committee
alone from 1975 – 2000 purchased over $1 million
of medical equipment. The PHF from 1990 to 2007 provided
over $4 million for medical equipment and program
support.
The
motivating factor for the volunteers who actively
sought charitable support was the community itself.
Just like the forefathers who could see that a hospital
was needed in Pratt and proceeded to build what is
now PRMC. It was the perception of “what is
good for the community” that drove them to establish
the hospital. The Gifts & Bequests Committee and
Foundation leaders have the common focus of providing
quality medical care in south-central Kansas.
Since
PRMC is a charitable hospital, with no operational
support from taxes, these charitable people helped
purchase the medical equipment the Pratt physicians
and medical professionals needed to provide quality
medical care for PRMC patients from south-central
Kansas. It was accomplished by asking the community
to assist them in supporting PRMC’s medical
equipment needs. It is this tremendous tradition of
giving which continues to make PRMC one of the best
hospitals in Kansas.
In
this issue we have included a list of the equipment
and programs that have been supported with the gift
income generated by the efforts of the Gifts and Bequests
Committee and the Pratt Health Foundation. In essence
both of these groups do the same thing and in recent
years have intertwined their functions for efficiency.
The end result is quality medical care by proficient
physicians with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
Below,
we have compiled a list of medical equipment and programs
that charitable gifts have purchased from 1975 to
the present. This tradition of giving continues to
enhance the medical care provided at PRMC.
The
numbers listed in parenthesis represent the number
of projects or equipment supported in that year. Bold
type listings reflect specific equipment provided
by the Pratt Health Foundation. As third party revenue
continues to shrink, the necessity of a partnership
with our constituency in south-central Kansas has
become very important. Write-offs of tens of millions
continue to grow making it more and more difficult
to fund medical equipment needs through the budget
and operational income.
