The
Adams Family Christmas Story
Five
years ago, in late December, Elizabeth Adams stepped
on a loose manhole cover. It slipped, and she fell
into the manhole. The accident caused a serious leg
injury. She was rushed to Pratt Regional Medical
Center where Dr. Kovach was able to surgically
repair her leg. Elizabeth remembers spending that
Christmas at PRMC. . . and it was a fond memory.
Elizabeth
recalls, “Everyone was very nice and did all
they could to bring Christmas to me. Considering the
circumstances it was a good PRMC
experience.” With the help of PRMC’s rehabilitative
team, Elizabeth’s leg continues to heal from
that devastating injury.
When
the Capital Campaign opportunity was presented to
Elizabeth, she wanted to help. She remembered being
in the hospital during a time when she would have
preferred to be with her family. Little did she know
that another family, the PRMC family,
would provide her with exceptional care and do their
best to make her Christmas a special one.
Similar
stories about PRMC continue to surface,
as volunteers and staff have contacted people, asking
for assistance through a campaign pledge or contribution.
PRMC’s mission is to provide
excellent and compassionate healthcare services. The
“care” provided often includes accommodating
family and friends during difficult times. It is a
culture that our patients and friends care about and
want to maintain, even if it requires a going out
of their way to say thanks or making a contribution
to the Foundation.
Elizabeth
is one of the special people who wanted to do what
she could to help maintain quality medical care in
a caring atmosphere. She and her husband made a five
year pledge to keep the dream of compassionate, quality
medical care intact. It is an honor to have people
like the Adams family who share their heart and resources
with us.
PLANNING
THE PARTY
When the Pratt Health Foundation Board
in conjunction with PRMC decided
that a Capital Campaign was the solution to strained
2002 financial resources, they thought that the potential
for a significant grant of $500,000 to $1 million
was possible. This made the solution of a $2.6 million
campaign seem plausible.
Now
that the campaign is scheduled to conclude at the
end of December, hindsight has shown a different perspective.
All of the gifts and pledges to the “Simply
the Best” Capital Campaign have come from the
PRMC service area which is south-central
Kansas. It is a remarkable discovery. $2.6 million
is a lot of money. But it is small in comparison to
the giving hearts found in south-central Kansas. Our
friends and neighbors have made the impossible a reality.
To
celebrate this accomplishment a party will be planned
for the end of February. We want everyone who has
made a gift or pledge to attend. The event will be
hosted at PRMC so people can come
and see the state-of-the-art medical equipment their
gifts have helped purchase. Without their generosity
this equipment would never have materialized.
So,
even though a definite date has not been set yet,
we want you to prepare to celebrate with us. It is
a great accomplishment by a tremendous group of people.
If you have made a gift or pledge to the campaign,
that means YOU. And by the way, we still need $120,000
to finish the cash needs of the campaign.
“The
Pratt Health Foundation promotes
health and raises funds to provide economic support
for health care in south-central Kansas through Pratt
Regional Medical Center.”
