Rehabilitation Services

Authors: Jeff Sanborn, Rachel Bleyen, Deb May

Pratt Rehabilitation & Residence Center provides physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation services. These services are provided by Pratt Regional Medical Center, a team of licensed or registered therapists committed to enhancing the quality of life by reshaping lost abilities and teaching new skills. These therapeutic services are designed to maximize the functional capabilities of our patients and residents.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Our physical therapists provide evaluations and set up a restorative plan to help improve mobility, decrease pain, and improve strength and endurance, related to a wide variety of diagnoses. Residents are helped in regaining prior level of functioning for optimal independence in returning home or in the nursing home setting.

Treatments may include recommendations for:

  1. Mobility and transfer training
  2. Ambulation with or without assistive device
  3. Strength and endurance training
  4. Stretching program to improve range of motion
  5. Balance and coordination activities

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Our occupational therapists help residents who need specialized assistance in learning skills to enable them to be as independent as possible. Wheel chair assessments and seating needs are often addressed to improve comfort level for the residents.

Treatments may include recommendations for:

  1. Daily living skills training and exercise
  2. Static or dynamic splinting
  3. Adaptive equipment
  4. Environmental adaptations
  5. Visual/perceptual compensation techniques

SPEECH THERAPY

Our speech language pathologist provides evaluations for language, voice, articulation, and fluency disorders, as well as addressing swallowing disorders.

Treatments may include recommendations for:

  1. Cognitive functioning (orientation and problem solving)
  2. Swallowing disorders (chewing difficulties, coughing, choking)
  3. Language (understanding what is being communicated)
  4. Speech and voice (strengthening oral musculature, improving slurred speech)
The rehabilitation team works with the entire PRRC staff to assure that each resident has the opportunity to reach their highest level of independence.
