
Surgical Services
At PRMC, surgery is performed by a group of highly trained health care professionals who make quality patient care their professional responsibility. The surgical team includes the following:
Surgeon: A physician with special training chosen by the patient to perform the operation. The type of surgeon depends on the type of operation.
Surgical assistant: A physician or specially trained and certified assistant who assists the surgeon during the operation. More than one physician may assist with surgical procedures.
Anesthetist: A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is a registered nurse (RN) with additional education and clinical training in the administration of anesthesia.
Operating room technician and/or scrub nurse: People responsible for handing surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon and his assistant.
Perioperative nurse (circulator): An RN who plans, implements and evaluates a patient's care throughout the operative procedure.
